Intune
Before an orchestra begins, musicians tune their instruments.
Yet the real work starts afterwards. A violinist listens to the
oboe, the oboe to the clarinets, the brass to the strings, and
everyone listens to the conductor. Being in tune is
therefore both a musical condition and an act of attention.
In tune
The five movements explore this idea without following a
conventional programme. Fast passages bring energy and momentum;
slower music creates space to listen. Themes return in changed
forms, voices answer one another, and the final movement gathers
the accumulated energy into a brilliant, virtuosic conclusion.
